Bunny Confessions

September 3, 2019 Leave a Comment

Aren’t they so cute? So we accidentally got into rabbits. Someone nearby dumped out a male and female mini Rex. My kids are always trying to adopt strays so…..we brought mama and papa rabbit to our homestead. I intended getting rabbits for meat but wanted more research time. I don’t even know how to cook rabbit.

Im pretty confident we have the breeding thing down. I swear they can breed in their own separate cages across the yard from each other! Each litter we produced we just ran an ad and sold the babies. Like I said, I don’t even know how to cook rabbit yet!

My husband suggested getting the kids show rabbits for 4H. After show season we procured 6 more rabbits, California Giants.

If your counting, mama and papa, 4 litters, 6 Californias. That equals too many rabbits for someone who doesn’t know what to do with them. We were able to cull (by selling of course) papa, 3 litters, and 3 Californias.

Thank goodness, in Texas, it gets too hot for rabbits to procreate. I’ve had a few months of not adding to the collection. Now I need to add a male Californian if we’re going to show them.

I’m going to admit, I don’t know if I can kill the rabbits and I don’t even know how to cook rabbit. So far rabbits are a failure. I need help and advice with this project.

This is me…

Well this is me...I am a homeschooling mother of 5 kiddos. I'm quite the introvert so this is a fun platform to share cooking, raising kids, herbals, essential oils, and homesteading!
